Kicking Horse Reservoir

Fishing and Kayaking Info:

Kicking Horse Reservoir is one of my favorite places to kayak and fish. It’s only about 20 minutes from my house and easy to get to. Located at the base of the Mission Mountains on the Flathead Indian Reservation, the road is well maintained (narrow at some points but easy enough to handle passing vehicles) and there are 2 areas to launch a kayak or small watercraft.

There are plenty of small to large sized fish in the water. Most are small and large mouth bass along with plenty of trout. If you have a kayak, you can reach any part of the water and with the proper weight on your fishing line, you should be able to snag some great bass.

The water is crystal clear in later parts of the year (my suggestion is late June to mid July) and you can see to the bottom for about 15 feet in. In regards to kayaking, it’s a great place to get some exercise in by paddling around and also casting out your fishing line. The views of the Mission Mountains are amazing and it’s extremely relaxing to just sit and watch the birds fly above and clouds float above the mountains.
